Parents, Teens, and Money:7. Understanding Identity Theft

  • Each year, millions of Americans have their identities stolen. Identity theft is serious, and it's hard work to repair the damage it causes.

Some identity theft victims may lose out on job opportunities, or be denied loans for education or housing because of negative information on their credit reports. In rare cases, they may even be arrested for crimes they did not commit.

  • Protect personal information

Criminals continually dream up new ways to access your personal information in order to steal money from your accounts, open new credit cards, apply for loans and commit other crimes — all using your identity.
